Description
The Rule 1800 H53SP-24 Swimming Pool Cover Pump is a centrifugal pump controlled by computer rather than float switch, checking for water every two and a half minutes. This pump turns on when water is one inch deep and brings the water level down to 1/2 of an inch before it turns off. A wide strainer base protects against clogging from leaves and debris. Freeze and jam protected, this pump shuts down before it is damaged.
The Rule H53SP-24 works in both salt and fresh water and costs less to operate, using only 100 watts of power. The 1/4 horsepower, 1 amp DC permanent magnet motor is water cooled- no oil lubrication required. This pump features a stainless steel shaft and a nylon impeller. The Rule H53SP-24 pumps 1,800 gallons per hour at zero feet of head. A 24-foot cord with three-prong plug and garden hose adapter are included.

Good Company
Friday, April 19, 2013I've had two Rule pool cover pumps. The first one lasted 18 years. The second one lasted 2 years and then would run but kept tripping the circuit breaker. Called the company because it was still under warrantee. No problem, they said throw the defective pump away and we will replace it. A week later a new pump arrived. You don't get good service like that much anymore. They seem to stand by their products, which do a great job.
small, compact, easy to use, does a great job
Apparently they sometimes leak water and short out, which is a problem with submersible pumps.
drillspot is a great place to shop
Tuesday, March 26, 2013thid pool moter is a very great pump for my pool
it met all my needs
it is just all great
bvuy little giant instead
Monday, March 11, 2013The rule 1800 is the second one I've owned. Each lasted about a year, whic is crap. I'm in San Jose, CA area so weather is mild too. It works pretty good when brand new but there is too much delay to turn on and start pumping. After a few months it starts to not turn on. I had to unplug/replug to get it to kick start. The screen in the bottom is small - and crappy - I put a bigger one I had from another pump in it. The hose attachment is hard to get on/off and the construction is cheap - this is a cheap pump. I tried to skimp on money buy I'm going back to Little Giant, which are great little pumps.
nothing
Little Giant
Flustered
Thursday, March 07, 2013When working, it performs adequately. But for a piece of equipment so exposed to moisture & the elements, its components - particularly the drain hose fitting - leave a lot to be desired. But worst of all, the pump motor is far, far too fragile & vulnerable/un-repairable: Thus, just yet another contribution to our "throw away" society. No wonder our landfills are overflowing!
IF/WHEN occasionally working right, it drained the pool cover fairly well.
Quality design/control: It's basic components/moisture proofing; for more reliable/longer use life & repairability!
Pool pump
Thursday, March 07, 2013The pump is exactly what I needed for our above ground pool.
works quickly and efficiently and shuts off automatically. Hooks up to any garden hose and 115v outlet.
nothing. works great.
replacement pump
Thursday, February 14, 2013does what its supposed to do. hopefully it lasts longer than everyone elses does..
fully automatic
longer warranty
GREAT PUMP
Tuesday, February 12, 2013This is a great pump. I have another one which I use all the time for the pool cover. Easy pump to work with. Like the auto shut off etc.
Ease of operation and dependable.
Rule,via DrillSpot
Tuesday, February 12, 2013My experience with Rule 1800 pumps goes back 10years.I've purchased (4) in 10 years,& yes I wished that they lasted longer, considering that the pump is only used (6) months of the year. However I have not been able to find a better replacement, that would do such a great job for the $$.This being my 1st time ordering via DrillSpot,I am very pleased.I could have purchased the pump for a bit less, but after reviewing the positive reviews I decided to go with DrillSpot & I'm happy that I did.
The constant product improvements.Ongoing R&D
Hose connector flange & a somewhat serviceable product,in order to provide longevity .
Rule Swimming Pool Cover Pump
Tuesday, February 12, 2013Excellent product, with high output and automatic operation. The service from DrillSpot was excellent, and the price is hard to beat.
Automatic operation, wide base and horizontal hose connects improve stability.
hose connector
Friday, February 08, 2013The pump does a great job clearing the rainwater off the softcover on our AFS; but this is a rather cheap plastic connector - from pump to hose - that has split. I tried repairing it with Super Glue, but that did not work. I hate to buy a new pump when all I need is the connector!?!
Pump is great!
Connector needs to be made of better material!
just ok
Tuesday, February 05, 2013wish it would work longer than 1 or 2 winters this is my third one works great when is new love the style but when it stop working its over
style
give me a 3 year warnnity
Not the best
Wednesday, January 30, 2013I have gone thru 4 of these pumps, working on my fifth. Like many others have said, this pump is only good for about one season. They just stop working. Guess I am the dumb one here as I just keep buying the same pump expecting the next one to be better than the others I have purchased. Feeling a bit smarter today so I am purchasing the Little Giant as a backup to have it ready when my current Rule pump gives out (probably next month as it is around 9 months old). On a somewhat positive note I did receive warranty replacements on a few of the pumps without problem. As always, DrillSpot has the best prices and service.
Pumps water at a good rate when it is working
Pump needs a redesign. Hose adapter needs a redesign.
Linden, Indiana Review
Wednesday, January 30, 2013I have purchased 5 of these pumps (or their similal Rule models) over the past 12 years. I am generally pleased with the pump and how it works. However, I can't believe they only last for a little over 2 years.
Only pump I have found that will operate in the winter without cold weather destroying it.
Longevity! It should last longer than 27 Months (average life of the 5 I have owned).
Great Pump
Wednesday, January 30, 2013The product is exactly what I ordered. It arrived promptly and in a new unopened box. The pump is very efficient, quiet, and has a casing that prevents clogging from debris or ice. It also has a 25 ft cord and attaches to a standard garden house which is very convenient. I highly recommend this product.
Exactly What I Wanted
Tuesday, January 29, 2013This is exactly what i ordered and it was delivered exactly when it was promised. What else could you ask for. The best compliment - I will order from DrillSpot.com again.
Rule Cover Pump Rules.
Thursday, January 24, 2013This is a replacement for our older model that was about 10 years old that quit working. I priced at local shops and save $100 ordering here. The pump is smaller than the previous model which will make storage easier.
Smaller Size
Hose connector. Cheap plastic slip on cracks after a couple of years.
hose spout
Tuesday, January 22, 2013Great.
Automatic turn off
THe hose spout metal not plastic/
saved our pool cover!
Tuesday, January 15, 2013This pool pump has done a good job for us. It is very reliable
Well, it lasts about 2 years
Fast Service Product was exactly what I ordered
Tuesday, January 15, 2013Product performs well without a glitch.
Great Product
Tuesday, January 08, 2013Exactly what I needed....works great!
Rule Pump
Wednesday, January 02, 2013These are great pumps. This is the second one I have owned. I used the first one for three years in central California. it worked very well. It would remove all but about 1/2 bucket full of water from the cover. The only problem I had was the hose fitting cracked and came off. I replaced it with a PVC fitting from the hardware store for less than 1 dollar. I put this pump away when there was no rain in order to keep it from cycling on and off every couple of minutes. This seems to make it last. The only reason I bought a second pump is that I left the pump when we sold the house.
It did a very good job for what it was designed to do.
possibly an on/off switch in the cord?
Pump rate
Wednesday, December 19, 2012Efficient, easy to hook up, quiet
Best pool pump ever
Tuesday, December 18, 2012Rule pumps are all that the adds say, this is the second pump I ordered the first lasted 12 years. Still works but the base disintigrated
Quality
Make replacement parts available
Could last longer
Tuesday, December 18, 2012I really like this product however this is my third one and I seem to only get the most two years out of it.
Really takes the water off the top of my pool when it's suppose to.
Last longer
Great Small Cover Pump
Tuesday, December 18, 2012It works exactly as promoted.
The pump works great and is very affordable.
The chord could be longer.
Great!
Wednesday, December 12, 2012This product works very well-offered from your company at a good price and your company shipped it immediately--outstanding
Good product, great price, iffy service
Tuesday, December 04, 2012Pump performs as advertised and was easy to set up in the middle of my inground pool cover. With the included leaf guard, the pump does not clog even with extreme amounts of leaves on the cover. Very satisfied with the pump. The service from DrillSpot was less than satisfactory. They advertised three-day delivery on their website but failed to let me know that it was backordered. After 4 days, I sent them an e-mail asking for the status - they never responded to the e-mail. When I called they apologized for not letting me know that it was backordered. It ended up taking approx 10 days to receive. Based on the price - it was exceptional - the delay was worth it but they should have contacted me as opposed to me having to contact them after the item didn't arrive as advertised.
Ease of use - it's saving me vast amounts of time and effort.
No improvement needed.
This is my second one
Tuesday, November 13, 2012Its my second Rule pump. First lasted 5 years. Hope this one last as long. Was very happy with the first.
They need to put the handle on any future modles
Super satisfied
Wednesday, November 07, 2012This purchase was a replacement for the same product I have used on my pool cover since 2006. Its gone through summer heat and winter freezing and snow here in Idaho, all the while working great and keeping my inground pool cover free from water and ice buildup. I'm sure this one will do as well for as long! Extremely pleased with the quality and performance.
Performance, reliability and simplicity of use
Last forever!
Hope it last more than 1 year
Tuesday, November 06, 2012I just moved into a new home last year. There was an existing Rule pool cover pump. It worked great, however, it only lasted 1 year. The reviews i have been reading rates this as the norm. I really didn t want to buy another one, however, I thought I would give it one more try. I also thought it was difficult to get in contact with Rule customer service.
It can be used during the winter.
Longevity and an easier way to maneuver the punmp onto the pool cover.
Great product at half the cost.
Tuesday, November 06, 2012I,ve over a hundred dollars or more for a similar pump. This one is just a good. Works fine and does what I expected it to do.
Price and the base is stable and keeps out debris.
Nothing.
Save your money
Monday, November 05, 2012I bought this because I needed a pump quick and while the reviews were mixed I thought lets give it a try. I got it last week and our first heavy rain since covering the pool was yesterday evening. My son and I set up the pump this morning and kept moving it til we found a spot where the water pooled the most. Once we finally found a old spot the pump quit, first day out of the box. I would say about 3 hours of use before it died. It checks for water pumps for about 15 seconds and quits even though it is almost submerged in water. I will say that the Rule company was excellent about replacing it, they are shipping another one out to us today and I pray this one works (heavy rain coming).
Price and brand name
Could use a handle, feel strudier and weigh a little more, enough to draw all the pooling water in.
Best pump I have ever purchased!
Tuesday, October 30, 2012This pump was put through the test of Hurricane Sandy and was awesome.
Rule 1800 pool coverpump
Saturday, October 27, 2012Our first one did last about 4-5 years. So we went with this product again. It quit working during the warranty period and was replaced quickly and easily. The replacement only lasted just over one year/season.
We could plug in and go. When it clogs it is easy to clean.
We would have liked that it didn't clog as fast.
Pool cover pump
Wednesday, October 17, 2012It works just fine. I just hope it lasts longer than two seasons. This has been my prior experience, with this pump.
Works Great, easy to operate
Wednesday, October 17, 2012So far, so good. This pump seems heavy duty, it really puts out and does not get bothered too much by leaves. I still had to scoop the leaves from the pool cover just in case they might overcome the pump. We will see how long it lasts.
Easy
Cheaper
Big help
Wednesday, October 17, 2012It appears that this pump is exactly what we were looking for. We needed something to keep the water off the winter cover of our pool. It has worked great for the short time we have ha it.
The fact that it checks constantly for water - also that it can remain out and connected during freezing weather
Primo Pump!
Tuesday, October 16, 2012This is a replacement pump for the same one that i had for about 4 or 5 years -- works like a charm. I would be happier if the pump lasted forever, but I am told that is what you can expect, given that the unit turns on every 2 minutes to determine if there is water there.
Gets every last drop of water off the cover.
Longer lasting?
Super Pump
Tuesday, October 16, 2012So far, so good. The pump performs as advertised and even though I haven't had a lot of water to pump off my cover, I love the continual sensing of water presence.
Full automatic operation.
A handle on the top would be good.
Awful
Saturday, October 13, 2012I'm really surprised I don't see more comments about this issue. I just started using this product and the hose connector pops off when the hose is under pressure. The connector is only pressed on so when hose is attached the connector pops off. This design is just awful.
Price
Hose connector pops off under pressure and no handle
Do not buy this pump!
Friday, October 12, 2012This pump dies the day after the warranty runs out. I have had three of them now, and each one lasts ONE season. When I go to use them the second season, they haven't worked three times in a row now. I don't leave them out in freezing weather, I don't make them run constantly and yet they still fail. Note that most of the reviews are written by people that have just received their pump. Yes it works great for one season. Expect to buy a new one every year. This year I'm trying out the "Little Giant" pump. The Rule pump is garbage.
Worked good for 11 months.
Give it a 3 year warranty
Pool Cover Pump - so far so good!
Tuesday, October 09, 2012I have only had this product for a week. At this point, it seems to be working well. Hopefully, it will last a long time.
I like the automatic on/off feature so the pump does not have to be monitored.
I wish it had a handle on the top.
the one big downside
Wednesday, October 03, 2012I found the reason why the auto shut off Rule pump costs less than the Little Giant-the auto Rule pump constantly goes on and off every two minutes to check for water costing about $3.00 per day in electric charges even though it may not pump any water that day and also causes a lot of wear on the pump going on and off so much vs the Little Giant pump that only starts when IT SENSES WATER.
its cost
see above
Great pool pump
Tuesday, October 02, 2012Awesome product. Drill spot delivered the product within 3 days of ordering. I definitely recommend this company
Works great. Pumps water very quickly. Easy to assemble. Doesn't clog from debris
Nothing
best price
Tuesday, October 02, 2012I researched web sites to find the least expensive Rule pool cover pump to replace my worn out one. Drillspot was the best price, shipping was fast and the product was as advertised. I would definitly shop here again
works well.
Handle on top like the older model had
pool pump
Tuesday, October 02, 2012Price good, shipping free, came in less than a week, surprisingly powerful, automatically turns off when (close to dry) and when needed automatically turns on again. Hope to use it for many year to come (time will tell)
could remove a bit more of the water ... leaves a small puddle that can be brushed off.
Very Good Experience
Tuesday, September 04, 2012Ordered it for the upcoming close of pool season and it arrived in no time at all. Won't know how it works for a few months yet, but it's what I was looking for and the price was right!
Good Product
Wednesday, August 29, 2012The product delivers as advetised. As noted in another review they should have not removed the handle.
Everything except the removing of the handle
Put the handle back on
Rule Pump Review
Tuesday, August 21, 2012This handy device cleared the pool cover water for a large in-ground pool in one day.
Speed and convenience
Could use a handle
Great Product
Tuesday, August 21, 2012This product is so easy to use. This is my third pump in 8 years. It gets lots of work summer and winter keeping my cover free of water. I do wish they lasted longer.
Ease of use
If it stayed operational 7-10 years rather than 3-4
Rule H53SP-24
Tuesday, August 14, 2012Is is the third pump that I have bought. They last about 2 years. I wish they would last a little longer. Still one of the best on the market. Each pump has a different housing. Maybe this latest one will last.
Full auto operation. Plug it in and let it work. You do have to remove heavy leaf buildup, but that goes with every pump.
They could last a little longer. The first two pump died from water intrusion to the motor after a year and a half.
Great Service from DrillSpot, But...
Tuesday, June 26, 2012The Rule pump should have a longer life than 2 years for the price. This is my third one. Also, I don't think they did the product any good by taking off the handle. You have to put in a pool that you really need something to grip on to.
It works when it is new
See above
Old Faithful
Saturday, June 23, 2012I've had my Rule Swimming Pool Cover Pump for 7 years. Here in Oregon, it has had quite the workout keeping rain off the cover. It has never failed in that time but, now, OLD FAITHFUL's days have ended. I'm buying another Rule Pump!!
Consistent and reliable
The tabs that hold the base on, broke off, perhaps a better way to attach that to the pump
Great Pump While It Lasts
Thursday, June 21, 2012This is the second Rule 1800 GPH pump I've purchased in 14 months. The first one completely stopped working 2 weeks ago. So I ordered this new one and Drillspot, as always, delivered promptly while having a great price. So I give DrillSpot great ratings! I also called Rule, since the broken pump was covered by the 3 year warranty. They were also very nice, and shipped me a replacement. Now I have 2 of these pumps, which seems right -- since I always need a working one here for my pool. I'll just keep my own spare. I do notice that this new H53-SP pump has a slightly different design- where the power cord enters the top of the pump. Hopefully the new design will keep water out - I have to assume that the pump broke when water seeped in the top. Also the newer models come with only 2 year warranty, (was 3) so maybe they are also cutting back our expectations that the pump will work when it gets wet. Maybe I will design a small umbrella that I can attach over the pump to keep it dry in the rain.
Rule Pool Cover Pump
Wednesday, June 13, 2012I bought this to replace a previous Rule pump that worked perfectly for just over 3 years then suddenly died. This new one is identical to the previous model and works perfect - at least twice as fast as a alternative brand that I borrowed from my neighbor. I just hope that it lasts a bit longer than the previous one I had.
Light, easy to set up and very fast
Would be better with more metal and less plastic
I Still Love It
Wednesday, June 06, 2012Replaced same pump. Best on the market, wish they had kept the handle though.
Great While It Worked
Tuesday, May 22, 2012The pump does a fantastic job when it works but mine stopped after a very short time. DrillSpot is replacing it but very inconvenient since I want to open my pool now. To replace it without question is great customer service.
Pool Cover Pump
Wednesday, April 18, 2012I got this one to replace one that finally died. Works great!
Timed sensor
No handle
Happy & Satisfied
Wednesday, April 18, 2012This little pump works great. I often leave it plugged in just to keep the pool cover clear of any water. Every 2.5 minutes it checks if there is any water to pump out. Works well.
Simple to use. Just add a garden hose and plug in
I previously had this model for 10 years and it had a handle on top to make it easier to carry. Other than that, there is nothing I would change
Great Pool Cover Pump!
Tuesday, April 17, 2012Great product! Pumps water off my pool cover very well! I have had other styles of pumps, but this works the BEST!
East to install and very effective
Pool Cover Pump
Tuesday, April 10, 2012I replaced my previous Rule pool cover pump with this one. It lasted roughly 5 years. Its a great pump and has the best features for our automatic pool cover.
It has all the automatic features and high flow rate at the best price
The tabs that hold the strainer to the pump should be a little stronger
Swimming Pool Cover Pump
Tuesday, April 10, 2012Great product, most effective pump I have found for pumping water off the pool cover.
Replacement for my worn out pool cover pump. I purchased the same product I had used previously
My original pool cover pump quit working after 2 years
Dirty Operation
Thursday, April 05, 2012This pump came with my pool cover. I bought a cover that would stop the debis that fell from a nasty oak tree in neighbors yard. Needless to say on occasion some of the debris gets past the guard and stops the impeller. I have had to clean it out about 6 times a year for the past 7 YEARS!!! What a pump!!! To borrow a phrase from Timex...It takes a licking and keeps on ticking.
Ease of maintenance and its reliability
Hose to Pump adaptor fitting to be made of stronger material
Best Pump Out There!
Tuesday, March 27, 2012Love this pump! It does its job, even in the roughest of conditions (snow, ice, etc).
Much stronger pumping action than many other products on the market. My hose has to traverse a steep uphill portion that other pumps couldn't contend with. This one has no problem!
I would like more durability. I get about 2 years per pump, but this is not entirely unexpected due to some of the harsh winters it sits through in the Northeast.
Perfect
Tuesday, March 27, 2012Exaclty what I wanted and at the cheapest possible price and with a two year warranty! Fast shipping too! Thanks Drillspot!
It's exactly as described and cleared my pool cover of rainwater fast!
Rule H53SP-24 1800 GPH Swimming Pool Cover Pump
Tuesday, March 27, 2012So far, this product is working out well. It automatically drains the water from my pool cover and at 1800 GPH, it does it rather quickly.
I like that you can plug it in and leave it plugged in. I also like that it works at 1800 GPH
I have heard that this product only works for a few seasons based on many reviews that I read but I am hoping that is not the case. I will take good care of it
Absolute Garbage
Saturday, March 24, 2012I have gone thru 4 of these pumps, each one lasting less than a month of use, and 3 times replaced under warranty. They simply stop working. Simple as that. No abuse whatsoever. When one goes thru 4 of the exact same model units, you have to wonder about the quality of said product. These aren't even worth $2.00. Total garbage. Don't waste your money.
Design
Try to make it last longer than 30 days
Lasts One Year
Saturday, March 24, 2012Works great for one year. Fails after one year.
Clears pool cover
Durability
Cover Pump
Wednesday, March 21, 2012This does a great job keeping water off my pool cover.
Do not have to worry about it freezing in the winter
It would be nice if it would last more than two seasons. This is my second one an they only last 2 seasons
Rule Cover Pump
Tuesday, March 20, 2012Replaced the same unit that was less than three years old. Outlasted two different pumps though. Does the job well, hope this one lasts longer! Knew what I wanted so it didn't take long to buy. Best price and I had it in two days.
Quiet efficient and it works
Long life, we will see if this one lasts longer
Pool Liner Pump
Tuesday, March 20, 2012The pump was a replacement of an old one, and Drillspot had the best price and quick delivery. Thanks.
Matched the old one
Quality as expected
The Rule 1800 Pool Cover Draining Pump
Wednesday, March 14, 2012This is my fourth Rule pump to use for my pool cover. Each one only lasts about two years
When it is working it does a good job
I liked the form factor of the previous model better, with a handle across the top of the pump.
Fast Service
Tuesday, March 13, 2012Had to replace my Rule pool cover pump after 4 years of use. Drillspot had the best price, and after ordering, it arrived in 2 days. Very fast service - will use Drillspot again.
Rule + Pump = Junk!!!!!!
Sunday, March 11, 2012This is my 4th pump in 3 years. Here it goes: First pump lasted 4 months, sent it back and rule sent me a new one. Second pump lasted the rest of season and 1 month out of the next. Sent it back and rule sent me another one. Third pump lasted the rest of season and died the 1st month of the next. I sent the pump back and rule sent me a new one. When I received this fourth pump, I put it in dry storage and did not use. I was so frustrated I went and purchase a bunch of tractor inner tubes and put under the cover. They worked great until one of them got a hole and deflated. I pulled out the rule pump in dry storage to get the water off and right out of the box it would not work!!!!! Neighbors went through 2 this season and gave up and bought a Little Giant. I am also going to purchase one as a backup. Getting more tractor tubes (they ran out of the good ones I was buying so I got a couple of cheap ones and one of these is the one that went flat).
When it worked it did the job.
Durability!!!!!!!
Dont Buy
Saturday, March 10, 2012I have had two of these pumps and both have failed after two years. Dont waste your money!
Build to last longer
The Pool Pump
Wednesday, February 29, 2012The rating says it all. The pump does the job quickly and efficiently. It is easy to drag onto the cover, and the price was right.
Seems Too Good To Be True!
Thursday, February 16, 2012Middle of winter. Got it quickly & it's working just like promised. Seems to be fine & well worth the money. Hope it lasts a while.
It's stability w/ the wide bottom & pump power. Also the computer controlled on/off switch that checks for water then shuts itself off
Cheaper, but you get what you pay for & I've spent $45 before and it didn't last a month
Great Little Pump
Thursday, February 16, 2012We had to replace our old pool cover pump and this fit the bill. It is lightweight and easy to operate. Automatic on/off feature is wonderful. Drillspot's price was the best and it arrived quickly.
Lightweight and easy to operate
Add a handle for easy placement and removal
This Pump Is Great
Tuesday, February 14, 2012DrillSpot's price was great, the pump is great. It cleared our 44'x20' pool of 2 inches of water in less than a hour.
It pumped a lot of water quickly, and gave me time to push water with a brush from other pockets of water on the cover before shutting off
Hope It Lasts Longer Than The Last
Tuesday, February 14, 2012Great product, just doesn't last long. Got 2 years out of it.
Second One
Sunday, February 12, 2012This is the second Rule pump that I have purchased, and, so far, both have been very reliable. The life expectency is only 2 to 3 seasons, but, for being out in the elements all winter, that's pretty good.
There is no warranty card to REGISTER the product, so how would I make a claim under it
Best Price
Tuesday, February 07, 2012Just what I was looking for. The main reason I ordered from DrillSpot was this was the best price I could find. No problems with any of the service. Easy order and fast ship with very good packing.
I have used this pump for many years and when the current one died there was no question about replacement with the same
I can replace most parts of this with the exception of one thing that kills the motor, brushes. Once they ware down it's get a new one
As Ordered
Tuesday, February 07, 2012Works as advertised. Time will tell for how long.
Easy setup and cleared the standing water fast. Had sufficient weight to create a low spot on the pool liner to collect and remove the rain water
Rule Swimming Pool Cover Pump H53SP-24
Tuesday, February 07, 2012We owned an earlier Rule pump which lasted until the motor burned out (about 7 years). The current purchase is the currently available (newer) model. It is smaller & lighter than the older model. It works just as well as the older model. The Rule pump is superior in both performance & price to what we could get in a local pool store. The Drillspot shipment was low cost compared to other suppliers and arrived during the promised time frame. Great job Drillspot!
Great Service and Price!
Tuesday, February 07, 2012Thanks Drillspot! Great service, super fast shipping, and a $100+ savings compared to the local pool supply store. The pump itself will wear out before the warranty, so save your receipt. Rule is great about replacing it as long as it's within the warranty period.
Pool Cover Pump
Tuesday, February 07, 2012I checked out other websites and local stores to see where I could get best deal. Drillspot delivered the product needed for a most competitive price. Thanks
Just did what I wanted
A Good Water Pump
Tuesday, January 31, 2012This is my third Rule cover pump in nearly 8 years. It works great and there are no other products that do this job.
Easy to use and a long power cord
3 Strikes
Sunday, January 29, 2012My thrird pump in 5 years just died - again. Agree with the others, it works great...when it works - will not buy another one.
Works great for 1 season, then fails
Very poor durability
Reliable, Versatile Cover Pump
Tuesday, January 24, 2012Our first Rule cover pump lasted 7 pool seasons sitting in the middle of our solid safety pool cover (approx. 22'x48'). It was very reliable. When needed, and at the end of each winter, carefully clean the unit and pack it away. This simple maintenance assures that nothing clogs the pump. Even through freezing temperatures, this pump does continue to monitor pooling water. Don't allow leaves or other accumulated dirt or gunk to get in the way of its doing its job. We have switched to a lighter weight mesh safety cover for our pool. I ordered a new Rule cover pump to sit on a pool step to keep winter precipitation from raising the pool water level. Next winter season we will set it up as suggested by our pool maintenance professional.
Manufacturer warranty increased from 2 to 3 years; Reliability; Best price at DrillSpot!
The plastic hose connection piece need to be more heavy duty
Great Experience!
Wednesday, January 18, 2012The "Rule" is a terrific product for our pool. Easy to use and spot on with taking care of excess water after big rain storms and snow!
Easy to use
Best Available Swimming Pool Cover Pump
Tuesday, January 03, 2012This is the latest version of the Rule 1800 GPH (rated) swimming pool cover pump. As many others have mentioned, these pumps tend to malfunction after 3 - 4 years of use. I got a little over 4 years from my last pump. The pump no longer has a top carrying handle but otherwise appears the same externally. Still appears to be the best available option for an automatic swimming pool cover pump. Excellent first buying experience with Drillspot. Item arrived when promised and was well packaged.
Automatic draining of standing water down to a half inch level, long power cord, strainer base is easy to remove for cleaning
Longer operating life. The electronic control fails well before the pump wears out. No reason why this pump shouldn't have a 5 to 10 year life in home pool use
Fourth Pump in 7 Years
Friday, December 30, 2011Like everyone else has said, it works great when it works. First one lasted just over a year and was replaced by Rule without problem. The replacement lasted about two years. The third one just failed (would not shut off until unplugged) and then would no longer stay running. Just ordered the fourth one because I could not find anything better. Looked at the Flotek but reviews seemed about the same as the Rule. Drillspot prices rock! Saved me a lot.
Ease of use
Quality is lacking
Rule Pool Cover Pump
Wednesday, December 21, 2011This pool cover pump does exactly as advertised. It requires very little maintenance (there are a lot of trees around our pool, so it is necessary to occasionally clean out the filter screen on the bottom of the pump. Super easy to do). It cycles on and off automatically and isn't affected by freezing temperatures. Great pool cover pump.
Easy to use
Second Pool Cover Pump
Thursday, December 15, 2011Works great when it works. The first one I purchased lasted for over a year. The second one I purchased as a replacement only lasted a few weeks. I did return it.
It stops and starts by itself
Longer life span
My Second Rule Pool Cover Pump
Tuesday, December 13, 2011Works great, I just hope it lasts longer than the last one did (one year).
Awesome Service
Tuesday, December 13, 2011Drillspot not only had the best price, I had my order in three days. Plus, I got this cool Drillspot box. You guys are great. Thanks.
It's just what I ordered
Quick Service at the Right Price
Tuesday, December 06, 2011Same product the pool cover company sells for about $90 less. First one I had worked great for one year then died. They replaced it free and I bought this one as a backup.
Questionable Quality
Monday, December 05, 2011Upon receiving the Rule 1800 GPH pool cover pump, the bottom piece could not be removed. One of the release tabs was stuck with some substance like paint. I found the same substance inside of the outlet port that connects to the hose. Customer Service wanted me to force the bottom piece off which I refused to do.
Had one before that did a great job the first year it was working. Eventually it would shut off in a few seconds after starting. Ready to trash it!
Quality
Great Product
Tuesday, November 29, 2011We like how the pump works, it's very effective at keeping the necessary water off our pool cover. We have recommended it to others already.
Rule Auto Pool Cover Pump
Monday, November 28, 2011I love the way this pump works. It starts and stops as needed. But it only worked for one season and the motor was burnt-up. I had it torn down and it was cheaper to buy new than repair, if the motor could be replaced at all.
Functions, stops and starts on it's own
Longer lasting motor
Get This Pump - That is Rule Number 1!
Thursday, November 24, 2011This is a replacement of the same style of Rule Cover Pump we received when we built our in-ground pool 6 years ago! The original pump worked perfectly the entire time. The design has changed over the years but it works just like the original. Good buy!
Automatic start and the price from DrillSpot. Could not find any better value.
No negative comment at this time.
Great Product
Tuesday, November 22, 2011I received the pump very promptly. It works just as advertised. I've had it in use about two weeks, so can't comment on durability.
Power and auto-features
Nothing, at present
1800 GPH Swimming Pool Cover Pump
Saturday, November 19, 2011This is our second pump. The first one lasted about one year. Works well. This one did not plug into any of our three pronged extension cords well, so we ended up putting electrical tape around where they meet to make it stay.
Works well
Make them more durable so that they last more than one year!
Second Time Around
Wednesday, November 16, 2011This was our 2nd purchase of the product. Our 1st pump lasted for 5 years with no problems. Our original pump worked very well. Guess it finally wore out. We did check online for other products but decided to go with the original pump.
Previous experience and price
Rule Pool Cover Pump
Wednesday, November 16, 2011There is nothing good about this pump. It may work for a year, it may work for a month. I am on my third pump, it just failed. I was told by Rule they would send me a fourth pump. It hasn't happened. I give up. I'll find another brand.
Nothing
Short Life
Friday, November 04, 2011I got this unit August of 2010. It worked for about two weeks then it would turn off after about 10 sec. with water over the base. I sent it back and after waiting at least two months I did get another unit. On November 3rd. 2011 this second unit died. I keep this pump inside unless it rains and I only leave it plugged in while water is on the cover. I make sure it is clear of leaves and that the hose is not bent. When this pump works it is great but two in one year is not good.
Does a great job of pumping water
It needs to last longer at least five years.
Rule Pump
Tuesday, November 01, 2011I am very familiar with this product and that is why I ordered it from Drillspot, also it was the cheapest. I checked all around the internet and some stores in town.
The way it works and its reliability
Rule Pumps
Wednesday, October 26, 2011Works as expected. Longevity? I have two other Rule pumps that have worked well for years.
To get the best performance requires a larger diameter hose than a garden hose. Specifically 1 1/8 inch diameter; not a common size. Boat suppliers have this size.
Recent Purchase
Tuesday, October 25, 2011Works well... lasted only 4 years
Works well
Could last longer, 1st one died after 4 seasons. Old one had a handle on top, a better design.
Great Pump! Just what I needed!
Wednesday, October 19, 2011I just installed a 24' above/below ground pool this summer, so this was my first closing of my pool. Where I live, we had 5 days of rain, rain and more rain. Once the rain stopped, my first thought was; how am I going to get all the water off my pool cover. I looked at a number of pumps but was sold on the Rule Pool Cover Pump. It worked great. Removed the water quickly and was very easy to use. Glad I made this purchase!
Very easy to use and the special shutoff feature
Could be heavier and more balanced
Will Not Prime
Wednesday, October 19, 2011I just spent 40 minutes cleaning the pump, dipping around the pump, unplugging and plugging it back in, and it will not prime. This is typical of this pump - it is rare that it will work without a lot of messing around with it. My fervent wish is that the designers of this pump are as cold and wet and frustrated as I am right now.
nothing
If it would actually work.
Cover Pump
Tuesday, October 18, 2011Works well, but is a little lightweight to allow the water to pool around it.
Pumps fast and is stable and easy to move
It could be a little heavier to allow all the water from a large pool cover to drain to it
Pool Cover Pump
Friday, October 14, 2011I hooked up my pump today after we had some rain yesterday and it works great. It was easy to hook up and didn't take very long. When I turned it on, it only took a few minutes to pump the water off my pool cover. I have an above ground pool so the cover slants down in the center but the pump didn't seem to care. My brother in law has one on his pool cover and recommended I get one. It sure beats what I was using to get the water off.
Easy to hook up and started to pump water off the cover as soon as I turned it on.
I think the base could use a little weight so that it doesn't tilt when the wind is strong.
Review on the Pool Cover Pump
Thursday, October 06, 2011It's really too early to tell how this will work, since all pumps work beautifully in the beginning, but I'm happy with my choice and expect that it will be seen as a good choice for me in the future.
Everything I Expected and More.
Tuesday, October 04, 2011Came quickly and worked right out of the box. Keeping my pool cover dry. This last couple of weeks has been a real test as in the Philadelphia area we have broken all time records for rain fall in both August and September. I recommend both the pump and buying it from DrillSpot. BTW, DrillSpot had the best price.
It works as expected.
No improvements needed.
Pool Pump
Tuesday, October 04, 2011This was the exact same pump at a lot less cost to me. Delivery was excellent, could not be happier. Drillspot is the best, no doubt.
Excact replacement
Not one thing
Handy
Wednesday, September 21, 2011Easey to use, lightweight, good price. Needs a grip on top to move around easier. Borrowed my neighbors twice and then purchased my own.
Easy for a woman to handle
Needs some type of handle on top to move when out of reach
Very close to what I needed for my pool cover
Tuesday, August 23, 2011I bought Model H53SP-24 1800 GPH, 1 amp. It turns on every 2.5 mintues and checks for water. Completely plastic body, with a wide base which kind of distributes the weight of the pump. It's been almost one and half months since I kept it plugged on. Today it has started making a kind of friction sound when it turns off.
Small size
Reduce weight.
Rule Swimming Pool Cover Pump
Wednesday, August 17, 2011Have not used this pump yet, but I liked the previous Rule pool cover pump I had very much.
The automatic sensing of water and automatic shut off when water is removed. This pump is more sensitive to water level than other pumps I considered.
Would be nice to have a handle on the top of the pump.
No More Handle on Top
Saturday, July 02, 2011It would be better if they put the handle on the top back so you have a way to get it to the center of your cover. Had to make my own with wire.
Hope This One Works for a While
Tuesday, June 07, 2011The pumps are great while they are working, but don't expect a long working life. At least not here in the northeast when the pump is kept outside year round. The only bright point is the customer service at Rule. I have now returned 3 pumps over the past 5-6 yrs or so. They just ask for a copy of the receipt and send out another pump no questions asked. I have offered to send them back the malfunctioning pump for quality control, but they don't even want it back.
Rule rules!!
Friday, June 03, 2011Placed this pump on my pool cover, plugged it in and water flowed off the cover immediately. Cover drained swiftly, and pump turned itself off. It rained the next day, pump went on automatically and drained the cover again. What more could I ask for?
It works just as it says it will.
They could make it free?
Best investment!
Wednesday, June 01, 2011Strong, effective pump. The only one I'll ever purchase.
Works consistently and without issue. Manufacturer stands behind their product for the full warranty. Indeed rare these days!
Pump doesn't work
Tuesday, May 31, 2011I got this product in May 2011 and tried to use it to remove water on my winter pool cover. Pump action was horrible. It pump fpr 20 seconds and turned off even though the water level was above the pump base. I have contacted the manufacturer as per Drillspot and they are working on replacing unit.
Nothing
Pump should remove water within 1/2 inch.
Rule 1800 GPH Pump
Friday, May 27, 2011I received tis item very quickly and used it today. Worked great and got the water off my cover quicker then other pumps I have used previously. So far so good....
Works great and fast shipping
Rule H53SP-24 1800 GPH Disappointment in Pump
Wednesday, May 25, 2011Dissapointed bought this year to drain pool cover spring rains etc just this weekend just after a week of rain added to pool cover and right before Memorial Day weekend when we were planning top open pool and only after 3 uses of less than 3 hours each use it totally shorts out and motor stopped working. Nice cost of 33.00 a use.
When it did work it was FAST!
Work !!
Customer Service Review
Monday, May 16, 2011This is not a review of the pump, but of your customer service. I've used the pump before, so I knew what I was ordering. It does a better job than more expensive pumps from other manufacturers that I've used. Now to the point of customer service: Excellent! Easy to order, processed quickly and very nice confirmation e-mail.
Not Sealed Very Well
Tuesday, May 03, 2011Had for less then a year and quit working. They replaced it no questions asked. They told me to throw out the old one so I took it apart. What looked like was happening was the top was leaking water around the cord and water fried the circuit board. Next one I am going to seal the top with liquid electrical tape to see if it will last longer.
Fast pump
Seal better
Great pump
Tuesday, May 03, 2011Its been three years since I first purchased this pump and it finally had to be replaced. It survived three winters on the east coast. Thats why when the new one has to be replaced I'll buy another one. Thanks Much!!
Auto cutoff
For me, a longer power cord
Swimming Pool Cover Pump
Tuesday, May 03, 2011Had to already return the new pump as defective after only 2 weeks of use. The company is sending a replacement at no charge but this is the third pump I have had in 6 years. Seems like they only last 2 years at the most.
The automatic pumping feature.
I would like to see them design a more durable commercial grade pump that last much longer. I would be willing to pay more for it.
Great as expected
Tuesday, May 03, 2011Arrived and worked as expected. Thank you!
Price and familiarity
Everything as expected.
Great product
Monday, May 02, 2011This pump is the same as the pump that came with my pool except a smaller GPH. This pool works great at pumping water off the cover without leaves getting caught. I would recommend pump to anyone looking to buy one.
The price was less expensive than what other companies where charging.
Rule Pool Pump Review
Monday, May 02, 2011This pump does a great job of clearing almost all of the water off of our pool cover. I like the new water resistant design and hopefully it will last at least as long as the older design (2-3 years). I looked at the other pump designs and they were either much larger and/or would leave a minimum of 1/2" of water on the cover. The microprocessor on-off design is superior to any float type switch as well. Honestly, I would have paid double for this pump than what was charged. Why make everything in China and then sell it for less than it's true value? It's a head scratcher.
Automatic on/off, 98% water removal
Higher pump flow
Rule Pool Cover Pump
Friday, April 29, 2011Bought one 4 years ago- lasted one year but was replaced by rule. Now the outflow connector split and I've tried various glues/cements with no luck. As many of the reviewers said: when it works it is great BUT it is not durable. I can't find parts for it. Minor complaint: the screen glogs frequently with leaves/debris..
Quiet, automatic, powerful, ice does not hurt it
Outflow, lack of durability and the screen clogs frequently
Junk
Sunday, April 24, 2011My second pump in 3 years just went down. These pumps work great in the beginning, but do not last! I will not be buying another one!
Automatic
Durability
Have Had Three Pumps
Thursday, April 21, 2011When these are running they are great, the first one I had lasted three seasons that was five years ago, the next two lasted one year each and had the same problem. The entry hose fitting where you screw your hose into the pump broke loose, turns out they are just glued on and each surface is smooth soft plastic. Because of the type of plastic used the only type of glue you can fix them with is plummers glue which does not hold well at all! You can't use any type of epoxy or super glues because it will have a chemical reaction. After calling the company they offered no help what so ever. My guess is that the company is aware of this but because they are made in China or whatever foreign country they already have a contract for so many thousands of units so they are unable to fix the problem.
When its working its great very independent
Plastic construction of out flow valve. Needs to be much more durable.
Pool cover pump
Tuesday, April 12, 2011I needed to replace my pump that came with my automatic cover. I made the mistake of purchasing the Flotec pump from Home Depot. It had to be assembled and I had to constantly reset the pump every 2 minutes. I returned that pump and ordered this one.
Updated version of my original pump
Quicker shipping
Pool Pump
Tuesday, April 12, 2011Nothing to set up; plugged it in and it worked like a charm!
It is compact and requires no assembly; reviews were favorable.
Excellent Product
Tuesday, April 12, 2011Pump does a great job. Just plug it in and let it run. Very quiet. I didn't think it was working because I didn't hear it so I checked the end of the hose to see it was.
Does what I bought it to do.
Nothing that I can think of.
Pool Pump
Tuesday, April 12, 2011Just took it out of the box, plugged it in and it began working immediately.
No assembly required
If it had a warranty card with it to fill out instead of relying on my keeping the receipt for 3 years
Pool Cover pump
Thursday, April 07, 2011The product was deliverd very quickly and the price was the best on the web.
The price and how fast it removes the water
The tabs that hold the bottom plate could be stronger
Lousy Reliability
Tuesday, April 05, 2011Have had 2 of these pumps. Both quit working within 30 days of 3 year warranty expiring. Customer service @ Rule was very impolite about helping me out. Have bought my last unit and will go to the Flotec unit as per other people's recommendations.
Should last 4-5 years
Reliability & Customer Service politeness!
Pool Cover Pump
Tuesday, April 05, 2011My local pool supply wanted $260 for this exact same pump! Works perfectly and I highly recommend this product. Great price.
It's automatic.
Perfect
Friday, April 01, 2011Drillspot is spot on! Beat all other competitive prices and service was fantastic!
RULE pool pump failure
Wednesday, March 30, 2011I received this pump in a package deal with my auto cover. The pump worked fine for about 2 seasons and then died. Will not run for more than a half second. I have read multiple complaints about the microprocessor failing. PARTS????? Also the hose fitting was a little difficult to attach the hose to at times.
Small, light, and compact.
Last longer than 2 seasons
The Little Pump that Can
Wednesday, March 30, 2011Terrific lightweight pool cover pump that can handle the heaviest downpour. Also, bought it for 30% less than anywhere else I looked.
Not Too Happy
Tuesday, March 29, 2011This product lasted exactly 26 days. I called Drillspot Customer Service and they are shipping a new one. Didn't even ask any questions, so this must happen a lot. That says it all.
Fourth Pump
Saturday, March 26, 2011This is the fourth Rule pump I've purchased over the past six years. Average life of each pump has been 2 years. They do a great job when they work, but invariably they fail. It would nice if there was a vendor who cold repair these pumps at a reasonable price.
The Rule pump is easy to use. The strainer does a good job filtering out debris (I live on a wooded site).
Reliability and durability should be improved and repair services offered.
Review of Swimming Pool Cover Pump
Friday, March 25, 2011It only worked a week before it stopped working all together. I'll never buy a product from Rule again.
Nothing
Higher quality
Great Pool Cover Pump
Friday, March 25, 2011Just what I was looking for.
Auto sense technology, wide base that prevents pump from tipping and leaves from clogging pump, long power cord
GFCI Plug
Nice pool cover pump.
Thursday, March 24, 2011See notes below.
Good strong pool cover pump. Leaf guard works well. Reasonable price.
My first one (same model) lasted five years; ten years would have been better. Last one also had a nice handle on top; this one has only the power cord to pull on.
Good Pump!!
Monday, March 21, 2011Great for automatic pool covers. Second one we have had. First lasted a long time
Great Pump
Monday, March 21, 2011Toss it onto the pool cover, plug it in and forget it! Water is automatically pumped out........forever!
It filters out the leaves.
You don't improve on "perfection!"
Nice While it Lasts
Saturday, March 19, 2011I am getting tired of having to buy a new pump every year.
Works while it last
Last longer than one summer
Great Deal!!!
Friday, March 18, 2011Works as advertised, fast and worry free. Had to replace the one I had after 3 years but I think it would have lasted a lot longer had I flipped off the power when it was dry outside...no sense it coming on every 2.5 minutes when it isn't raining. Also not sure teh previous one had water freeze protection like this one does.
Price. Can flip off the breaker when it is dry out and back on when it's raining and know the pump will kick on as needed.
Put the handle back on the top of the case like it used to be.
Pool Cover Pump
Saturday, March 12, 2011Was thrilled to get the product, but unfortunately it was delivered damaged. Don't know whose fault, Drillspot or UPS, but I was the one without a product that I had paid for. Had to make at least 12 calls, long distance (there is no toll free number) before I could get satisfaction. Finally received the new pump, I can only hope that this one works. I came in a different box marked unlabled, I hope its not a refurbished pump instead of a new pump because I paid for a new pump.
Not sure yet
More competent, efficient customer service from both Drillspot and Rule
Only good for 3-4 years
Tuesday, March 08, 2011This pool pump does a good job for 3-4 years and then it's done. I've owned 2 now and had the same problem with both, they stop working. I'm sure they only warrant it for 3 years because they know they stop working after that. Definitely do not leave it outside in the winter months, I would even bring it in when there is no need to use it. I think I will try a different brand just to see how good it works compared to this one.
It pumped water good for 3 years.
Make it so it lasts longer than 3 years.
Great Improvement
Monday, March 07, 2011The first unit came with my pool in 2005. It kept tripping my GFI and then it stopped working this winter. I pulled the unit apart and found water in the electronics compartmen ton the top due to a bad seal. I was able to get it dried out. The new design is completly sealed, a great improvement based on my/this experience. Otherwise, love the unit. Got new one shipped quickly.
Rule Pump
Monday, March 07, 2011Pump quit working within 2 months of purchase. Last one I had lasted 3 years.
Very Satisfied
Monday, March 07, 2011As with other customers, I bought this to replace another Rule pump that had failed due to moisture in the electronics. I'd used the old pump on a pool cover, and for draining a diy ice rink, for four winters with no issues. The strainer has worked well, even though one of the clips holding it to the pump broke a ciuple years ago. Perhaps the longer winter with more thaws/refreees this year may have been the final straw. The old pump just keeps immediately tripping the breaker. The new pump works great so far.
Easy to set up, quick delivery from drillspot
Broken After 5 Months
Monday, February 28, 2011When it is working it is great and indeed you do not need to worry about it. You take it out of the boxe and plug it. BUT after 5 months the hose connector broke... we are in winter so I open the pool cover barely once a week to check the skimmer and we are in a place in California that doesn't freeze. I'm also going to an other brand as it seems I'm not the only one who has had this problem.
Easy to operate
Change the hose connector or make it changeable.
Excellent Service
Monday, February 28, 2011What good service and prompt shipping. Will do business with DrillSpot again.
Ugh...
Sunday, February 27, 2011This pump worked great for 2 seasons. Unfortunately, I now have the same issues as many others. Condensation on the circuit board has caused it to fry. I will submit a warranty claim for a replacement and hope for the best.
Pumps water fast
Should last more than 2 seasons
Rule Pool Pump
Friday, February 25, 2011Good product. This is my third one in 12 years. They last about 5 or 6 years. I hope the new design on the debris filter at the bottom is an improvement. The other 2 were a little to stop up. Best thing I liked, since I know the product, is the price from DrillSpot. Cheaper than any other web site!
Easy to use right out of the box.
Debris filtering. Longevity.
Excellent Pool-Cover Pump
Sunday, February 06, 2011It is not perfect, but it is better than any other pool-cover pump I owned before. The auto sense and auto shut-off works very well. The base (blue skirt) really keeps the debris out. The pump is fully immersible, but that happens very rarely with my usage. It is usually pumping water 4 to 6 inches deep. With no freezing temperatures around where I live, I just leave it out there in the open all the time. I first worried that it will wear out by turning itself on for every few minutes and shut itself off ten seconds later because there is no water to pump. That seems not be the case. Overall I highly recommend it. The only negative is that the pool pump occasionally trips the fuse of the electric outlet it is connected to. Then I have to go and hit the reset switch at the outlet. Based on this experience, I suggest that you never connect this pump (especially in the rain) to an ordinary electric plug. Use a double grounded plug with test/reset buttons, which pops it fuse when there is a short.
Perfection
Monday, January 31, 2011Working flawlessly; only had to replace because of a powersurge (which blew the GFI as well).
Light weight, easy to use, does the job without having to fuss with it.
Great Service
Tuesday, January 18, 2011The price was right and the speed of delivery was awsome. One of the better companies to do business with.
Everything!!
I'm not that smart to be able to tell you.
Rule H53SP-24 1800 GPH Swimming Pool Cover Pump
Monday, January 10, 2011Working as described. We'll see if it holds up to Northeast winters.
Set & forget.
Nothing as far as I can tell.
Great Product for a Decent Price
Wednesday, January 05, 2011This pool cover pump is the best out of three different brands that we have tried and the price is right!
It stands on a wider base and won't tip over, unlike some of the others
The connection nozzle is weak and breaks very easily and being that you have to change hoses, during extreme cold, it needs to be stronger
The Most Reliable Pump I Have Ever Bought - I Have 3 of Them.
Monday, January 03, 2011This is the third of these pumps I have bought in the last 3 years - not because the first two broke down, but because I needed pumps in 3 different areas, and the first two are still working flawlessly. I tried several other pumps bought locally, mainly because I wanted to put a pump in place right now, without waiting for one to be shipped. I ended up returning them. Nothing matches this one for reliability, and it actually cost quite a bit less than the others I tried. With this pump in place I don't have to worry about anything going wrong while I am away. I have never had the slightest problem with this pump, and would recommend it to anyone.
It works exactly the way it is supposed to. I know any product should do that, but I have been unpleasantly surprised too many times to take that for granted. This one does what is it supposed to do, and I don't have to worry about it.
A better filter screen would be nice - maybe on the dark blue part to keep the wire screen from clogging up as easily. The hose attachment piece does get brittle over time, but it is easily replaced with a piece available at any hardware store.
Rule #1 - Don't buy this pump
Saturday, January 01, 2011I've owned a Rule 2000 which lasted me 3 seasons before it died. The second year I owned it the auto level detection quit working so I had to constantly unplug to reset to get it to pump. After it pumped it would stop working again until I reset once again. It finally quit altogether the 3rd season. I replaced it with a Rule 1800 GPH which quit working after 2 months. Finally bought a Flotec which was about $50 cheaper, is more powerful & seems to be functioning as designed. We'll see how that one does.
When it works, it works well
Improve quality & dependability. Supposed to be "worry free". That's all I did with this: worried if it was working.
Pool Cover Pump
Saturday, January 01, 2011This thing is fantastic! I was worried at first about it being too heavy or burning out because it might stay running after the water was gone, but it sits right there and does what it is supposed to do! I had a little square one that had been chugging for days on a LOT of water from melting snow and when I replaced it with this one, the water was gone in a matter of a couple of hours. I recommend this to anyone with a tarp covered pool. Worth every cent at twice the price.
It automatically samples the water level and just stays pumping if the water level is high enough. The automatic shut0ff keeps it from cooking itself.
I can't think of any improvements that could be made to this product.
Little Pump
Thursday, December 23, 2010Simple and sturdy. It's operating well in near freezing conditions! Filters out the leavesand debriswith little maintenance.
Simple to put together and operate
A longer electrical cord, to save me using an extension cord.
Pool Cover Pump that works!
Monday, December 20, 2010I like the way it continues to run even when there are leaves surrounding it. The pad it sits on keeps the debris away from the bottom of the pool pump.
It sits up well on the pool cover.
I think it should only turn on when there is a certain amount of water to get rid of. I comes on every 2-1/2 minutes even if there isn't any rain on the pool cover.
Rule Pool Cover pump
Monday, December 20, 2010I've had the pump for about a month. It has worked very well and I have been especially pleased with the leaf guard since our pool is surrounded by oak trees. Drillspot's pricing and delivery were excellent.
Leaf guard
It would be nice if it could pump just a bit faster during torrential rains, but its functionality is excellent for the cost.
What To Do First if Your Pump Shuts Off After a Few Seconds
Friday, December 17, 2010Drastically shorten the length of the hose attached to the pump.
Flat leaf filtering bottom, lightweight
Nice Pool Cover Pump
Friday, December 17, 2010Silent and efficient. This is a good cover pump, I would recommend it - and I would recommend getting it at Drillspot.com given their price
The plastic connector for the hose seems a little fragile and the manufacturer should look at making that piece more solid.
Pump It
Friday, December 17, 2010Best I ever had in 20 years
Fast, efficient
Save Your Money
Monday, December 13, 2010The first Rule pump I had lasted about two seasons. Then, as other owners have indicated, it began shorting out and throwing breakers on my house and eventually it totally shorted out. I thought that maybe my first Rule pump's problems was an anomaly and maybe the next one would be better. I have now had my second Rule pump for a few months and guess what? It has also started throwing the breakers. Save your money and get a different pool cover pump. I am going to give the Little Giant a try. How could it do worse?
It was great while it lasted
It did not last
Pool cover pump
Thursday, December 09, 2010Easy to set up and use. Stays upright. Works fast.
Rule Pool Cover Pump
Thursday, December 09, 2010The right product came as promised. On time, undamaged, works just fine thank you.
Cycles itself on/off; pumps water down to a very low level. Clog resistant.
Nice pump!
Thursday, December 09, 2010Working like a charm. We'll see how it weathers its first winter, but so far, it's been a great little pump!
Great Service
Sunday, December 05, 2010This product was purchased to replace a unit that was some years old. 2 pumps are required for this pool. I read in the reviews regarding complaints about the output hose fitting cracking. We had experienced this with the other of these pumps. I called customer service and received 2 (one for repair and one for spare) within a few days of my contacting them.
Product is very effecient in performance. Easy to place and remove when pool cover is removed for summer use. Small size for convenient storage when not it use.
Redesign the output hose fitting mold so that there is not a weak spot in the final product.
Burnt out
Saturday, December 04, 2010First pump lasted about 4 months. Company replaced it no questions. Next pump lasted about 3 months. When there is severe temp changes, Warm to very cold, condensation builds up inside the housing and shorts out the circuit board. Great when they work, but wish they could figure out the moisture problem. Going to a different brand.
Pool Pump for Cover
Monday, November 22, 2010This product is effective as a cover pump and will last about two or three years if you take care of it. This is the second pump I have purchased and the Drillspot price was very, very good. If you leave the pump outside in all types of weather--it's hard on the pump. Put it out when you need it, put it away when you don't. Clean the leaves away periodically and it's great. It pumps very quickly.
Easy to use and clean out
Got it fast
Monday, November 08, 2010I got it fast with no problems. It replaces my old one which is 4 years old. No problems yet.
Pool Cover Pump
Monday, November 08, 2010I was pleased with the quick response to my order for the 1800 GPH Pool Cover Pump. So far, I am well satisfied with the pump. It is keeping the water off my cover. The only thing that would make it better is a longer electrical cord. I am using an extension cord without any problem. It's a good product.
The automatic pumping feature whereby it detects water and pumps it off immediately.
A longer electrical cord.
Replacement Pool Cover Pump
Monday, November 08, 2010I purchased this pump because it was the same as what came with the cover five years ago. It worked with out any problems for the five years, and at the end of the winter season 2009 it burnt out. The first pump that I received lasted 4 hours before it burned out. I contacted DrillSpot and they quickly replaced it. The new pump has worked for a few weeks now with no problems. Ane I hope it stays that way.
I like the fact that you plug it in and forget it.
The white hose outlet connection is poorly made, I expect it to crack like my first one did, and I will put a hose clamp on it to salvage it when it dose.
The Way to bBuy
Monday, November 08, 2010I got the best price on exactly what I wanted. Brand new not refurb.
Perfect for a low price
Best Pump Around
Saturday, November 06, 2010Great product. It's the only one that makes sense for pool covers. I got the pump from my "Cover Pools" installer 3-years ago as part of the installation. I had used other pumps before that but they didn't last and were not at all convenient. I close the pool cover at night and during bad weather. It keeps the heat in and debris out. I use the pump on the cover in season and have used it on the winter cover in NJ as well. This pump is also automatic, so it doesn't run continuously so I don't have to unplug it or plug it in during the winter. I just plug it in and leave it. After 4 years it's still working great. Last year I replaced the base, which wasn't expensive. The clips on the base broke because of rough handling, not because of any lack of quality in the product. It's nice to be able to find and buy parts. Now I'm about to buy a second pump to put on the other end of the cover during the winter.
It's well made, works well and is automatic.
Make it last longer than 3 years!!!
Friday, November 05, 2010This is a GREAT Pump (if it lasts a few years beyond the warranty date) I have purchased this pump to replace the same pump I purchased 3 years and 2 months ago... that Pump the head leaked and shorted the pump out... when I called the company they said basically.. too bad.. it has a 3 year warranty.. not a 3 year 2 month warranty... well.. I would not call that the best customer service.. but I explained that this was the second such pump (same model) that leaked and broke after the 3 year warranty had "just" expired.. these are NOT $30 pumps! (I can say my $30 pumps have lasted me in some cases up to 10 years or more now.) The thing I like about this pump is the fact that it turns itself on and off automatically and that I dont have to watch over it... I just wish they would last... and I wish that they would give a warranty past 3 years!!!
the fact that it turns itself on and off automatically and that I dont have to watch over it
Warranty / longer lasting ... need it to work longer than 3 years and 2 months!!!!!!!
Rule Cover Pump
Friday, November 05, 2010I have only been using this pump for about a month. So far it is a great product. I have an above ground pool under two trees and the leaves are falling like snow and the pump has not clogged yet. The wide base distributes the weight of the pump over a large area. It also creates an indentation on the cover that acts like a reservoir that the rest of the cover drains into. I think I will order another to drain the other side of the cover (I have an air pillow in the center that divides the pool in half).
Weighes less the other brands
Works great, with a caveat . . .
Monday, November 01, 2010Works great for our pool's auto cover. To extend the life of the pump (as I've learned through experience) keep it unplugged until you expect imminent rainfall. Since the pump turns on for about 2 seconds every two minutes (checking for water), the run time really adds up over the course of a few years and the pump's useful life can be dramatically decreased if you leave it plugged in 24/7.
Long power cord, leaf strainer.
Auto-sensor for water rather than having to run for a couple of seconds every two minutes.
Don't Waste Your Money on this Cheaply Made Product of USA
Saturday, October 30, 2010I've had my pool since mid 2006. I have gone through at least four of these. Do not buy! Either the pump stops working altogether or the hose connection cracks and breaks off over and over again. I kept buying these because our pool supplies here were limited. I'm hoping to find a quality made pool cover pump from another manufacturer.
When it worked.
Everything
Experience is right in the middle
Friday, October 22, 2010The pump arrived and worked fine for a very little while. We had a lot of rain and when I really needed it it stopped working. Water was on the cover but it wouldn't stay on. I did everything troubleshooting said to do and it simply stopped even trying to turn on. I called the company and they sent me another pump no hassels at all. It took a while to get here but this one worked as advertised. It has been more than a month and everything is working just fine. I'm still leary about it but so far so good. It's great to never see excessive water on the pool cover anymore.
Automatic feature turns on and off just fine.
I wonder if the first one is from old inventory or was reconditioned. I hope this new one keeps working the way it has since it came, but if not, I hope the company will continue to honor their 3 year warranty.
Not reliable
Tuesday, October 19, 2010Poor reliability puts this pump at the bottom of my list and usually submerged in the bottom of a pool of water that is was designed to remove. Not sure why circuitry is so unreliable. Housing screws are not even stainless that tells me OEM has no aspirations of longevity. Don't waste your money or time with this one.
Pool Pump
Friday, October 15, 2010This pump has worked well so far, looking forward to seeing it work during freezing winter months.
Well made with quality materials
Piece of Crap
Monday, October 11, 2010Not made to last. Plastic hose connection piece gets brittle and breaks. The circuit boards take in water and shorts out. You would think they would make a water tight pump since it's in a wet submerged environment I'am on my 4th pump in 3 yrs. This will be my last one. Joe
The base
Hose connector and make the product water proof. For God sake it's a water pump.
Rule Pool Cover Pump
Monday, October 11, 2010I've had this product before and it's the only pump I know of that I can use through a MN winter.
See above.
Durability. My first pump lasted one winter.
Not exactly a great product
Thursday, September 30, 2010I like Drillspot, they are great. However, I am on my 3rd pump in 5 years. I've paid for two of them. The stupid garden hose connection keeps cracking. I have now found the best fix: get a 6" piece of 1" black plastic hose for a drip irrigation system. Clamp it to the pump discharge (after removing the cracked adapter).....then clap on a garden hose adapter to the other end. Your done! Don't buy the Rule part because it will break over and over. Took me 5 years to figure it out, but this works.
Works, but hose adapter breaks
Hose adapter
Do Not Waste Your Money
Sunday, September 26, 2010Try anything but these pumps. I have had three, none of them worked properly. Factory warrenty is a joke.
Junk
Wednesday, September 22, 2010The pump stopped working within a week of receipt. It is a piece of junk.
Works Well But Keep an Eye on It
Wednesday, September 22, 2010Keep any dirt or leaf debris out of the pump. If it gets clogged you don't want to be clearing it during a rainstorm! I usually clean it after each rainstorm and I clear leaves and other debris from the pool cover. This is the 2nd one i've bought, the first one lasted 4 seasons.
Great customer service!!
Wednesday, September 22, 2010Customer service department walked me through available pumps & suggested "Rule 1800 gph". It arrived within 48 hours & interesting that it was delivered by the company I called first - but their prices were 30% higher. Drillspot.com was terrific!
Does a great job of extracting water off our safety pool cover!
Pump
Wednesday, September 22, 2010The first on I got did not work. But DrillSpot replaced it with no question ask.
It replace a old one that I had and I wanted to use the same brand.
Pool Pump
Monday, August 23, 2010I had a Rule pump before this but it wore out. This is a MUST if you have an auto-cover on your pool. Although the first pump that I was sent ran coutinuously, Rule sent a replacement for free.
It automatically checks to see if there is water to be removed and takes care of it for you. Mine sits on top of my pool whenever we are not in it - just in case.
Pool Cover Pump
Sunday, August 08, 2010I have 2 of these pumps. One for my pool and one for my hot tube. They work great
Easy to use and last for years
Repair kit for the off /on sensor.
Garden hose adapter
Sunday, August 08, 2010The Model 68 garden hose adapter was cracked and kept blowing off the pump.I used two pieces of 12 gauge wire and twisted the wire around the the adapter in two places. Works fine now, but this adapter does appear to be a weak link. Mine also had a piece of screen inside of the strainer base, which I have lost. That small interior screen inside the strainer base would clog up quickly with small debris(wood chips/catkins)(I live in an area with lots of pine trees.)but have noticed no problems as the pump appears to push the small stuff through.
Does its job
Garden hose adapter
Rule H53SP-24 Status at About 3 year Point
Sunday, August 01, 2010I like this pump and it as worked well for just around 3 years now. Only had to replace the broken hose adaptor with a DIY solution that is doing real well and would be easy to do again as needed (may try the flexible hose Rule is advertising). Current problem is not described in the troubleshooting page but from reader reviews there is an implication that my problem might be the top seal and/or power cable grommet let water into the electronics... I believe this may be the case as when I plug the pump into any GFCI outlet I try, the GFCI breaker trips. Won't try a typical grounded outlet to further troubleshoot as I read the guides warnings about not using any regular grounded outlet. Other reviewers seem to feel that if a relatively cheap circuit card replacement were made available, that would be a good repair strategy. Not sure of cost of a card as compared to a $115 (+S@H?) new pump price I just saw. I would recommend this to friends with pools if Rule could come up with a relatively low cost strategy for repairing existing pumps. Maybe a 5 year warranty would alleviate everyone's angst!!!!
Lasted through my severe winters and worked fine each Spring/Summer... Until now
Garden Hose Connector did not last long but a DIY Hose Clam/Rubber Hose Adaptor Fixed it.
Pump failed - replaced by Rule customer service
Friday, April 09, 2010I was disappointed by the pump's failure but Rule customer service was excellent and made up for the problems.
Rule customer service replaced failed unit promptly
Pump failed. Worked well for three months.
Spend Your Money Elsewhere
Thursday, April 08, 2010Dont waste your time buying this unit... worked seldom and lasted about 3 months for us... I have not tried to return it yet.
none

Pump Never Worked Properly
Tuesday, March 16, 2010I bought this product in February, and it never worked properly. It would work intermittently, and then I would have to unplug it to reset it before it would work again -- did this for two weeks -- and it quit working completely. I ordered this product because it said "plug it in and forget about it". Well, I'm going to unplug it, send it back, and forget about it. The company said send it back (on my dime), and order a new one. Yeah, that will be the day.
Nothing Good to Say
Don't Waste Your Money
Short life
Sunday, March 14, 2010Worked well for 2 years. Same problem as LARRY. Circuit board shorted out.
Auto shut off
Short life
Can't Get Replacement Parts
Friday, February 26, 2010Worked for 3 years, then water shorted out electronics. It's tough for me to rate this product. When it worked it worked very well. Unfortunately it stopped working after just under 3 years. I opened it up and discovered water had leaked into the top compartment with the electronic switch and shorted it out. The pump mechanism is still good. If I could find the circuit board I could easily replace it. But I can't find anyone that sells that part. I wish I could get just that part.
Worked great for a short time.
Hose connector week and life time of pump too short for what it cost.
Rule
Friday, February 12, 2010I liked this pump because my neighbor has one and has been very pleased.
Works well
Worked for 3 years, then water shorted out electronics

Great pump
Water leaked into the electronics and shorted it out
Rule Pump Customer
Friday, October 02, 2009I have owned Little Giant Products and had to replace them after 15 to 18 months use. My last Rule Pump lasted almost three years. I did return it under warranty to the factory. I did buy a second pump because I liked the first one. The 2 1/2 minute check to see if water needs to be pumped is a great feature. Drill Spot delivered unit on a timely basis. Great service.
Best unit of all to date
Hose connector design is faulty
Rule 1800GPM pump
Monday, September 21, 2009hose connector is molded plastic all one piece became brittle where connects to hose and broke off - co offered to send a new piece but never did - and how would you put in on?? IT"S ALL ONE PIECE - that being said, I haven't found anything that pumps the water from the solid cover on our inground pool as efficiently as this pump
pumps the water from the pool cover quickly and efficiently
plastic becomes brittle and breaks easily
Brittle
Wednesday, May 06, 2009Pump works well in all conditions, but float (blue piece) disengages from the unit the majority of the time. The prongs that holds the units together is very brittle and close to being broken. Not a product that will last longer than a year or two.
Very good in water w/ debris
The blue bottom float disengages very easily from pump unit
Works well for a short time
Wednesday, April 01, 2009I am on my second pump of this kind. Lucky me that they have a 3 year warranty. The first one leaked and water go inside, on my second one, the axe of the engine broke. Not recommended unless you need it for a short time and plan on throwing it out.
Works well when new
last 1-2 years tops
Pool cover pump
Sunday, February 15, 2009I have had this pump for four years and have had to replace the hose adaptor three times. The company is very good about getting you a new one when you call but it's hard to put on.
Hose adaptor breaks every year
Pump
Wednesday, January 07, 2009Excellent pump for what it’s made for but, I also had problems with my pump just over three years old, it appears that the orings seals had failed letting water get in to the electronic motor and electrical cord rubber grommet going in to pump house leaked. I did order a new one and have seen that they have up dated or re engineered the electrical cord grommet.
Very easy to use set up and take down
Like to see them improve this pump even more to see at lest 8 years life out of it1
Slip on connection for hose
Sunday, September 28, 2008I like the product, but I am unable to find replacement parts. The clips to the strainer on the first pump broke, I had to order a whole new pump because I could not find a place to order just a strainer. Now the slide on plastic piece your screw the hose to has cracked and I cannot find a replacement piece. I will probably look to buy a different brand of pool pump. I cannot justify buying another pump just to fix a $2 part.
Works well with leaves and debris on cover
Cannot find parts anywhere
Homeowner
Sunday, August 31, 2008Auto feature works well keeping pool cover protected.
Protects Pool Cover pumps great
None at this time , have two others buying another
Hose Connector Alternative
Wednesday, August 06, 2008Rule 1-978-281-0440 or www.rule-industries.com or marine.com for pump parts. Rule does not sell direct, but will send hose adapter if you have trouble finding a dealer who does. model 68 hose adapter. (The flexible hose over the nipple with a garden hose adapter is actually a better idea...more durable) Also have pump base and handle.
Hose Connector Breaks - 4 year life
Pump works well but parts are impossible to find
Thursday, June 26, 2008The pump works well but when the hose connection gets older it breaks and you cannot find the part to fix. Two closed seasons is not enough use for the price of the pump if you cannot replace parts.
This pump has worked well for two years
Hose connection breaks and cannot find replacement parts
Great Pump but the hose connector!
Tuesday, June 03, 2008Trying to find replacement parks for this unit and unsuccessful! Pump works well except for the hose connection!
This is our fourth season with this pump and worked very well, BUT!
The slip on hose connections slips off all the time and now it is broken!
Rule Swimming Pool Cover Pump
Friday, January 18, 2008This product worked well during the first off season the pool was covered. Into the second and now third season, the performance is intermittant at best. For a while, the remedy was to unplug the unit, drain the water from the hose, and plug the unit back in. Now, following the autostart, the pump runs for a few seconds, does not detect the presence of water despite being submerged, and turns itself off. I had to drag out the Mighty Mite pump I retired a few years ago. Thanks goodness I kept it. Rule does not bode well for American made products. Any idea where to buy a pool cover pump made in China?
Works well for a year.
Submerged pump does not detect the presence of water to discharge.
