- Taps feature 2-1/2 to 3-1/2" thread chamfer. Thread tapers 3/4" per foot. NPT threads require use of thread seal tape such as plumber's tape or pipe compound. NPTF dryseal taps give a pressure-tight joint without sealer. Nominal size of pipe tap is that of pipe fitting to be tapped, not actual size of tap.
