Repeatable, accurateThursday, August 09, 2012
First off, I'm not a machinist. I woodwork and now do telescope making. More complex telescopes need a tool called a spherometer to measure curves in glass, which uses a dial indicator to give to give you a reading. I have used them in high school but found them slow and less than precise. This one changed my mind. I don't have the manual for it but didn't need it. This is obvious to use and gives amazing precision. It claims to be accurate to 0.00012" but I spoke to someone and they said that is the MINIMUM over its service lifetime. If used carefully, he said it would give repeatable results to within 1/2 of the last digit. This means to 0.00002.5" It has a data port of some kind as well some averaging functions for tolerances but without a manual and no need for them, I haven't explored this.
Accurate, quick to use and set up.
