Returned First One, Second Saw Works Well
Tuesday, December 27, 2011It's hard to give a good review here. The first saw I received was very "rough". The slide was sticky, the machining of the base was poor quality. Basically Harbor Freight quality or less. It had also been used. I returned the first one and Drillspot shipped a replacement saw. The second one was considerably better. It is not a high quality saw like you'd expect from Dewelt or Bosch. It is good enough for the price though, and with a Oshlun steel specific blade it cuts steel tube very well. I'm very happy with the functionality of the say. There truly is nothing like it on the market. I would not buy this if you're planning primarily to cut wood though. There are better constructed, more accurate saws at the same price point. For steel, this is excellent so long as it holds up. I can't say at this point how durable it will be.
A more robust higher quality build all around. Take the idea: gear driven low speed blade for steel cutting, and put it in something like the Bosch glider compound miter saw frame and it would be and exceptional tool. Yes it would also be $800.
Cuts It All, As Advertised!
Tuesday, September 06, 2011I was looking for a saw that could cut metal without the sparks and dust of an abrasive chop saw, but not at the cost of of "cold cut", "dry cut" or "wet cut" chop saws. This saw does it. I was amazed as it effortlessly cut through a 4" piece of 1/4" steel angle iron. And the claim that it produces a finished edge is true! Nothing like the abrasive where a grinder was always the finishing step. This saw is also far more precise. It really is a miter saw for metal- working just like my 12" compound miter saw does on wood. Though I've used this saw for wood to do mock ups and it does just as well here. This is a great cutting solution for any hobbyist metal worker/fabricator that wants to step from abrasive cutting.
Performance and capability for the price
The build quality is on par with the price- so don't expect too much
Rage 3 Miter Saw, Great Tool To Have
Tuesday, May 03, 2011I've made a few cuts with it so far and have been impressed. First cut was a half inch ACME thread steel rod. Cut through with no problems at all. I wish the clamping system was a little better, but my use for it isn't typical woodworking.
