Need 5 Wires For Conventional HVAC
Thursday, July 05, 2012Surprise, surprise. Apparently need five wires instead of four (red, green, blue (yellow), white, plus need for additional common. So much for replacing on the second floor thermostat wall. Will now try to install in basement in the wire nest at the furnace.

Tuesday, March 22, 2011This thermostat is perfect for my situation. Had to move my thermostat so the pellet stove and furnace could run together but have only a crawlspace and cellar so wiring would be more expensive than this unit. Also instead of having to try to pick a location to hard wire it I can move it around until I find where it works best. Has nice programmable features. Installation was a bit confusing but we got it to work although our system is heat only so a more complicated system might be harder to install. Once we got it hooked up to the furnace correctly it connected itself and has been trouble free.
Ability to move thermostat to best spot depending on whether or not the pellet stove is running.
Installation instructions need more explanation for the wiring.

Monday, March 07, 2011This unit solved my problem of needing to move a thermostat. It took me awhile to figure out how to configure the relay control given the separate 24VAC power sources for the relay and the equipment interface module. Turned out I needed to remove one of the jumpers. Easy, once I realized it was a secondary configuration. Second problem was that it seemed to develop a mind of its own, raising the temperature when it wasn't programmed to. A mystery, until I got my son (whose room the thermostat was moved to) to admit that he was setting it. Wish I could use the old 5-1-1 thermostat, though. The new control unit has more limited 5-2 functionality. What I really wanted was a wireless version of the 2-wire link, not a whole thermostat unit. And it would be cheaper, too.

Friday, December 10, 2010Shipping was unbelievably fast! The wireless thermostat was easy to install and set up. Directions that came with the device were very clear. We had recently divided our home into 2 separate heating zones (first & second floor). We were unsuccessful at running a thermostat wire from our basement to the second floor so we bought the wireless kit. The kit came with everything that was needed for our project and we were able to set it up the same evening that it was received.
Good Unit, Professional Installation Required
Monday, December 06, 2010I have always appreciated a high quality, high end thermostat - and this thermostat is both. However, I am also a do-it-yourselfer and found that this was not a do-it-yourself installation. So, I'm happy with the product - but the cost of the installation is more than the cost of the unit - so you need to plan for that.
I like that the connectivity works even with the furnace two floors below the location of the thermostat.
It would be better if the unit had a mounting bracket that allowed it to have a primary location, while being easily removable for secondary locations. As it is, it is like a cordless phone that is screwed to the wall (kinda silly, right?)
